Air Jordan 1 "Tundra" was ironically inspired by finding a piece of "Rabbit Fur"!
I had been mocking up designs for my shoe prior to the class, but in the end, I decided that I wanted to challenge myself to create something in the moment. When I started picking the materials, I almost went into a completely different direction, until I found a scrap piece of rabbit fur that was just big enough to be useable. After grabbing that, I knew that I had to incorporate it. I then revamped my design to the build around it being on the toe box. I also loved how the suede side of the shark leather contrasted with the beige fur, and contained slight variations of color. I wanted some pop for the swoosh, but to make the read stand out & keep the fur both prominent, yet, neutral. Finally, I decided to go with the earth tones and white/grey for the remaining pieces, to stick with a frozen tundra concept!
Rey was an EXCELLENT teacher, very knowledgeable about every step of the shoe making process and is fully capable to answer any and all questions that I had, and I had a lot of them. The SDCF instructors were superb as well, and were able to assist us and guide us with advice and expertise.
I would strongly recommend the class to anyone who is serious about learning the shoe making process. I will definitely be returning for another class in the future!
